A habit is a habit, right? Until you're changing the theme, then things get a little...complicated.

Last post I announced I would be changing my focus from this website to www.metaphysiology.com. It seemed like an even trade, since I could just take the knowledge and experience with me. Things are never so simple, are they?
Obstacles And Redirection
Changing the topic created a massive shift in perspective for me. Instead of seeing opportunities related to money, freelancing, and business, I started seeing chances for spiritual growth everywhere. It's a lot to take in.
Years back, I took this mandatory class that explained the brain's RAS. The way they told it, whatever you focus on becomes what the brain picks out from your environment. Basically, if you're lonely you'll see more couples to reinforce that focus. If you're broke, you'll find all the expensive stuff you want to have. If you're stressed out, you'll be more aware of all the tasks left to get done. That sort of thing.
I wasn't prepared for what my mind decided was important to reveal from this subject switch: now that I'm focused on spirituality, I see all the ways I'm not as "good" as I want to be. Boy, talk about a game-changer.
Overcoming The Bridge
The process of switching from freelancing to spirituality wasn't as smooth as I expected. As soon as my brain switched over, there were so many new considerations I hadn't thought of that needed attention. It took about a week of floating aimlessly to accept this new paradigm, and another hard-fought week to pin the habit down again.
It's important to allow a short (or possibly long) period of mental reset; a time where you can get accustomed to the shift. If you're changing occupations dramatically, this might be crucial to your overall success. Had I not remembered that class from long ago, I might have been discouraged by the sheer enormity of thoughts and information overwhelming my mind.
The most helpful habit I carried over was organizing the week's articles. On this site, I had found a nice groove of creating a weekly theme, and designated certain days for specific things. Monday Musing, Wednesday's expert references, and Weekly Reviews helped guide each week's article outlines. Coordinating the chaos really brought my feet back down to Earth, like the handrails on a bridge from one site to another.
No matter how long the bridge takes to cross, it's important to remember you can't get to the other side without that journey. It's your journey, after all.
As I begin this anew, I know only one thing: that I know nothing. Learn with me, and together we will figure this out.
